Rare vintage (1979) Artistic Challah Knife (Shabbat Bread Knife) or just beautiful bread cutting knife made by hand in Jerusalem in 1979 by artist Michael Harel, who developed this process of Sterling Silver Electroforming and adding touches of 24K Gold sparkle to the handle. There is a hollow handle, so not much silver. Silver is actually overlaid above a wax mold, which allows the artist to make the braided look on the handle, imitating the look of braided Challah bread, a staple at the Sabbath (Shabbat/Shabbos) dinner. Blade is Stainless Steel, signed “SHEFFIELD ENGLAND” (famous for making sharp, prestige knife blades). Dimensions: 13 1/2” long (5 1/2” for the handle, 8” for the blade; weighs a light 3 3/8 ounces). This is a new old stock never used knife, which comes in the pictured box. This was made in Jerusalem, Israel when this Sterling Silver molding system was used by this elderly artist, Michael Harel. Very collectible. Makes a great gift. The plastic top of box has a rip.
