Setsuko Mitsuhashi Art Book, Edited by Takeshi UmeharaThis is a large-format art book (27cm x 35cm x 2.7cm) published by Sunbright Publishing in 1980. It is a complete edition featuring 100 color plates, commentary, a chronology, and an album. The book itself is in beautiful condition, but the box and obi have some yellowing. We appreciate your understanding.Japanese painter Setsuko Mitsuhashi had her right hand, her dominant hand, amputated due to illness in 1973 (at the age of 33). She continued to create with her left hand, but passed away at the age of 35. Especially in her later years, she created many works based on local folk tales of Lake Biwa and Omi, which are deeply moving. 2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of her death.Philosopher Takeshi Umehara, who was the editor-in-chief of this art book and was the president of Kyoto City University of Arts at the time, poured his heart and soul into writing Legend of the Lake - The Love and Death of the Painter Setsuko Mitsuhashi about Mitsuhashi´s life. This deeply moving work was republished this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her death.Thank you for viewing.
